Paula’s Favorite Essential Oils for Cleaning the Home

Today, I want to talk about some of my favorite essential oils for cleaning the home. We all want health, wealth and happiness but without health, it becomes very difficult to work on other areas in life. In the incredibly difficult times that we are currently experiencing as a population, it's important to take care of our immune systems and reduce our toxic load.

The first oil of major importance is Lemon (Citrus Limon): Lemons and lemon oil are popular because of their refreshing scent and invigorating, purifying and cleaning properties. Research shows (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/grapefruit-essential-oil#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2) that lemon oil contains numerous and powerful antioxidants that reduce inflammation, fight bacteria/fungi, and boost energy levels. Diffusing lemon essential oil will also help cleanse and purify the air and surfaces in your home.

The second oil worth mentioning is Lime (Citrus x Aurantifolia): Lime is often used for its uplifting and invigorating properties. When diffused, the sweet citrus aroma can clear your head and stimulate the mind. It can also help support a healthy immune system.

Next is Sweet Orange: (Aurantis dulcis). I often refer to this one as the “happy scent.” Not only is it uplifting, light, fresh and sweet, but it has antimicrobial properties as well. Using this in a diffuser will greatly help you feel awake and positive!

Last but not least is Tea Tree Oil or melaleuca, this Australian oil is well-known for its powerful antiseptic properties and its ability to treat wounds. This is why it's one of the most popular antibacterial essential oils. It has been used by the Aborigines of Australia for thousands of years. The oil is antiseptic, non-irritating and non-toxic. It kills fungus and staph germs on the skin as well as physical surfaces and the air around you.

These wonderful essential oils can be combined with some common household products to create very effective DIY home cleaning products. The three common ingredients are baking soda, white vinegar and Castile soap. Here are some recipes for home cleaning products:

  1. All-purpose hard surface cleaner: Measure out 1/2 cup of white vinegar into an 8 oz. bottle, fill with distilled water and add 20-25 drops lemon essential oil. This mixture can also be used as a spray to freshen up any dusty furniture.
  2. Toilet bowl cleaner: Use the above mixture as a base and then add 10 drops of Tea Tree oil. Spray into toilet and sprinkle in some baking soda. Let sit for a few minutes then scrub.
  3. Dish Soap: Measure ¼ cup of Castile soap in a bottle and fill with 8 oz. distilled water. I like to add 30 drops of any combination of essential oils. I tend to use lemon, lime, and orange, however; oils such as lavender also work well. I find that having a citrus component in dish soap helps cut the grease and imparts a fresh scent.

While I am cleaning, I also diffuse lemon essential oil in my kitchen because I love that fresh, clean scent.

*Another fresh tip: try spritzing or diffusing a few drops of peppermint with lemon and/or eucalyptus in the air in the AM to get the day started. Calm your mind and body before bed with Lavender.

There is nothing more effective and nurturing than pure essential oils! Especially in this time of need, we can all benefit from the true therapeutic power of essential oils! If we can move from frustration to joy and positivity, we can achieve more abundance, success, joy, love, prosperity and health! as well!

Be Well!
Best regards,
Paula Naples
