Depending on where you live, you may have already started feeling that spring is in the air. Some of you may still have snow on the ground and are looking forward to the coming of spring; a time when we can get outside and renew our body, mind and psyche with the sweet, intoxicating smell of fresh cut grass and newly budding flowers.
Spring is a time of new beginnings, fresh perspectives, and the feelings of energy and rebirth.
We’re opening the windows, letting the air in, and spending more time outside. I look back fondly upon the memory of my mom starting her spring cleaning every year in March. I have always mimicked this ritual in my own home. Whether it is a tradition or a necessity, there is something about the sweet smell of spring air that motivates me to wake up and shake away the cobwebs!
It has become increasingly apparent to me that a person’s state of mind strongly affects their physical health. When we reduce our stress levels and maintain a more positive self-image, we help our bodies produce more T-cells and beta-endorphins. This leads to a stronger immune system and a more balanced state of mind.

Some of the most uplifting and rejuvenating essential oils for spring:
Peppermint and Eucalyptus :
The most notable use of these oils in springtime is for the purpose of energizing, maintaining focus, and providing seasonal allergy relief by clearing sinus and respiratory ailments.
Spearmint helps with focus and is a renowned mood booster. Inhaling its sweet aroma can help to induce positive feelings and thoughts – lift your spirits with this invigorating scent!
Bergamot has many health benefits including the reduction of stress, anxiety and physical fatigue. Because it is a citrus – you will notice that it is light, uplifting and assists with maintaining positive thoughts.
Lemongrass helps relieve stress and according to researchers in Australia (https://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/australian-lemongrass-is-as-good-as-aspirin-for-headaches-researchers-find/news-story/6b00994032339722d7974cbfe571b7bc) eugenol - a compound present in lemongrass - has similar capabilities as aspirin. It can assist with relieving headaches and migraines, and also releases serotonin; a hormone which is important in regulating mood.
The Citrus Oils:
Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit and Lime, along with Bergamot, whether separate or together in a blend are some of the most beneficial essential oils for killing germs, freshening the atmosphere, and enhancing your mood. Citrus oils are light, airy, uplifting and are often associated with a “clean” scent.
DIY Recipes to Freshen and Enliven both our minds and our homes:
New Beginnings Aromatic Spritzer:
- Lemon 16 drops
- Lavender 14 drops
- Clary Sage 6 drops
Add essential oils to a 2 oz. glass spritzer bottle, and swirl to blend them. Add 2 ounces of distilled water.
This spritzer can be used as a refreshing room spray that will bring joy and emotional balance while dispelling old, stagnant energy.
Mind De-Cluttering Spray:
- Grapefruit 20 drops
- Peppermint 3 drops
- Lemongrass 3 drops
Helps to cleanse the mind, increase focus and encourage positive thinking.

Spring has Sprung Diffuser Blend:
- 2 drops Lavender
- 2 drops Bergamot
- 1 drop Rose Geranium
- 1 drop Ylang Ylang
Stress Relief Diffuser Blend:
- 3 drops Eucalyptus Globulus
- (if young children present, use Radiata)
- 3 drops Spearmint
- 2 drops wildcrafted Sweet Orange
- 1 drop Bergamot
Mojito Sunrise Diffuser Blend:
- 4 drops Lime
- 3 drops Pink Grapefruit
- 2 drops Spearmint
These recipes may also be translated into a house cleaner by adding them to your preferred strength (30-35 drops total) into our Non-Toxic House Cleaner Recipe: ¼ cup white vinegar and fill with 8 oz. distilled water, or a room and pillow spray by adding 1/4c. witch hazel to the same 8 oz. of distilled water and any combination of oils to preferred strength up to 40 drops.
Some benefits and properties of these essential oil blends are for immune support, energizing, uplifting, decongesting and cleansing the air. It also helps bring balance to the body and the sweet, warm and spicy smells help to release anger. When diffusing, you can take advantage of its aromatic properties by saying a positive affirmation, a special prayer, or give thanks. Use this strategy at the start of each season to set your intentions for that time of the year.
